We encountered David Héritier and the entire Celliers de Sion team during our recent visit to the Oenopark. It was a very eye-opening and interesting moment, full of discoveries about Valais wines and excellent wine tastings.
Celliers de Sion was created in 1992 by Bonvin 1858 and Philippe Varone. Their goal was to merge together so becoming stronger. They already had in place all that was required for good production, the only thing that was missing was a link with the clients and the estates. With the passage of time, the market evolved. This structure to welcome clients would evolve with a quality project close to the Bonvin and Varone estates, positioned at the foot of the Clavau vineyard.
The Celliers de Sion gave birth to the first Oenopark, in the heart of Valais, in a setting worthy of the grand estates of Bordeaux.
An idyllic, eco-friendly building that blends into the vineyards
The Celliers de Sion structure has been designed to blend in with the landscape, with its dry stone walls and its brushed stainless steel cover. It is part of a concept of sustainability with photovoltaic panels, an air-cooling system using water from the water table.
Let’s talk about wines from Celliers de Sion
For David Héritier, it is difficult to choose among all the wines in the Bonvin and Varone range. His heart is drawn towards the Cornalin grape variety. And as a “wine for every day”, he would choose the Fendant.
He also tells us to be an epicurean. For the end of year celebrations or just for the simple pleasure of having a glass, at Christmas or at another time, he will opt for a Bonvin 1858 cuvée or Stricto Sensus from Varone, which are just exceptional.
Where to sleep and eat near Celliers de Sion?
David Héritier recommends for you, in the city of Sion, the Elite Hotel or Castel Hotel or a little further away from the Celliers, towards Sierre, the Hotel des Vignes in Uvrier.
Your visit to the Celliers de Sion Oenopark
All year long, a film by Fabien Valour and illustrations by Louiza Becquelin on the terroir and wines await you inside the Oenopark. You amble through at your own pace between multimedia, tasting areas, local produce, and barrel cellar.
On sunny days and until autumn, there are 5-6 visits a day from Friday to Sunday just waiting for you. In the direction of:
- “La Guérite Brûlefer”
- “La Guérite Clos du Château”
- “Le Cube”
- “La Guérite d’Uvrier”
The walks are carried out in small groups. If you are with friends or tourists, the Oenopark even offers to organise guided walks.
Of course you have the opportunity to taste, or ask for tasting workshops for your business, your clients, your family or your friends.
