The House Matasci is a family affair. Since 1921, 4 generations have excelled in the production and marketing of wine. Today, the 3rd and 4th generations are at the head of the company: Paola takes care of the marketing, Pierre handles the sales, Fabiana, oenologist, is in charge of the production and Mauro of the installations along with the son of Paola and Pierre and Mauro’s son-in-law. An administrative director complements this accomplished team!
At Matasci, the wine plays the central role: a “wine library” with a blend of Ticino wines, a cellar, a villa for events, a Bike & Wine, a museum (Petit Musée du Vin), art exhibitions, collaborations with local producers and different events throughout the year.
In addition to wine tasting, what else is there to do in Tenero?
The Matasci winery is located in Tenero on the shores of Lake Maggiore. In the hills you will find walks for everyone and cycling trails, tours and excursions for cycling enthusiasts.
As Paola likes to say “Here, the wine is good, but the landscape is beautiful!”
Among the many activities available at Matasci, we particularly recommend: the Bike & Wine.
The art of welcoming in Ticino
The Matasci villa welcomes groups and companies with an equipped meeting room, a room which can be used for food and wine events, without forgetting the cellar-Museum and its original ceiling which has stood the test of time. There are also local products available to accompany your tasting of house wines.
Paola and Pierre are happy to organise tailor-made tours or guided tours of the winery, tastings for groups and events for companies.
Eating and entertaining in and around Tenero
While talking with Paola, she told us about Gran Caffè Verbano with its terrace on the Piazza Grande, this historic place which was renovated 3 years ago. A restaurant with healthy home-made cuisine, but where everyone feels comfortable. Hearing her talk about it makes your mouth water!
If you are an art lover, Paola’s father, who has been organising art exhibitions for fifty years, has opened the Matasci Foundation museum, 4km away from Tenero. Visits can be organised.
Paola Matasci’s favourite wine
If Paola had to choose, her heart would choose the Sirio, as it is the first barrelled wine they produced. The 2015 vintage won a gold medal at Expovina and a silver medal at the Swiss Wine Grand Prix. Paola will gladly drink it with game.
If she has a soft spot for Sirio, she prefers white wines as a starter or aperitif. A very cold and fruity wine such as Mimose including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon which are vinified separately and then blended. A real treat to accompany fish from the lake.
As you will now understand at Matasci, there is something for everyone and everything is possible. So go to Tenero whenever you like or contact them to organise your made-to-measure tour!
