The Domaine de la Capitaine in Begnins has been producing organic wines for 24 years. Reynald Parmelin is the first Bourgeon-certified Vaud organic winemaker. The wine estate is also a member of Terravin, the quality label for Vaud wines.
During our meeting with Reynald Parmelin at the Domaine de la Capitaine, we uncovered his passion for innovation in viticulture and oenology.
The blue wine bottle: the distinctive mark of the Domaine de la Capitaine
“I wanted to revamp the bio” says Reynald Parmelin “The blue wine bottle appealed to me right away. It remained on my desk for 6 months; it was risky to choose a blue wine bottle.”
You will find at the estate 21 grape varieties which produce about 15 Vaud wines
Among the many grape varieties grown by Reynald Parmelin, enjoy Malbec, an unusual wine for Switzerland. Discovered while travelling, he thought that he would like to study this grape variety on his soil. He did the same with the Johanniter, discovered in Germany, again perfectly adapted to the terroir. He has been awarded the prize for Best Organic Wine in Switzerland for three consecutive years at the Grand Prix du Vin Suisse competition.
The Johanniter: the cherished wine of Reynald Parmelin
The Johanniter is a fruity, aromatic, wine which appeals to everyone. To young people who are learning about wine and to the connoisseur who will discover its range of aromas.
“You can drink it at any time of the day or night,” smiles Reynald Parmelin. “It is a very nice wine for an aperitif, perfect with aromatic, Asian, sweet and sour cuisine. Very fruity, it is the perfect accompaniment with foie gras.
