Your visit to Jean-René Germanier will be high in colour: you will be overwhelmed by the 2 sumptuous cellars of the winery. Tastings of the renowned wines, for example the supermature Mitis or the Syrah Cayas and especially Amignes, Vétroz flagship grape variety. Then, there are many restaurants and walks to choose from in the heart of the Valais.
Jean-René Germanier and Gilles Besse, with seven years difference, joined forces in 1993. The winery is the pioneer of the qualitative wine-growing revolution in Valais, with the development of Syrah as an identity grape variety of the Rhone valley in the late 1980s, which gave birth to the famous Cayas.
Half of the production is organic. Amigne 2013 is the first certified organic vintage.
Amigne, a 100% white Valais grape variety
With its very strong identity, with the well-tempered Valais character, you could only find the Amigne in Vétroz.
The Jean-René Germanier winery has chosen to present the value of this grape variety, which proves to be magnificent after a few years. The Abeilles concept, reserved for winegrowers-winemakers of Vétroz, notes the sweetness of the Amignes (1 bee is a rather dry wine and 3 bees indicates a sweet wine).
A dry Amigne is a wine of fine gastronomy, a lot of richness in the mouth, it complements white meats or scallops. Jean-René tells us to enjoy an Amigne with two bees with a curry.
The winery also offers a supermature Amigne called Mitis.
The overwhelming effect of first-class wine tourism by Jean-René Germanier
During your visit, you will be welcomed in the rotunda to discover several white wines, such as a Heida or Amigne just to prepare you for what comes next: a cellar of forty barrels and the Reserve wines perfectly aligned: first surprise! The second surprise will occur with the second series of barrels in a cellar of a flamboyant colour proposed by Léopoldine Gorret. A subtle alloy of class and refinement!
Their favourite wines to relax and recharge
- Gilles Besse: the Mitis; a wine of meditation.
- Jean-René Germanier: a Cayas 2005.
And spontaneously, a Terrace (Fendant) of the last vintage comes naturally.
