The Cave des Lauriers has been in the hands of the same family since 1879. Today the 2 cousins, Jean-Marc Jungo and Christian Fellmann, exploit the estate from the culture of the vine, oenology, to the sale and marketing of the final produce. They are supported by their wives, two collaborators and their grand-father.
The Cave des Lauriers’ wines
After talking with the 2 cousins, we quickly realised their preference for the traditional Neuchâtel grape variety: Pinot Noir. It adapts very well to the calcareous soil of the terroir, and then it allows numerous possibilities of harvesting and vinification (Œil-de-Perdrix, traditional, barrel and late harvests).
The Cave des Lauriers’ range of wines is complemented by Chasselas, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay.
Their favorite wine: The Œil-de-Perdrix
They talk about the Eye of Perdrix in a different light:
“Not just to be served fresh in the summer… it’s a wine of conviviality, for the whole year … it reflects the Pinot, it is structured and has volume. “
During your meals, this slightly-vinified Pinot Noir rosé wine can accompany you from starter to dessert. The Œil-de-Perdrix is an excellent complement for spring asparagus, poultry or even Asian dishes.
The Chasseral: a place for the whole family to escape to
“The Chasseral! This is our Mont Ventoux! It’s something well-worth taking a look at, a complete change of scenery.”
After 25 minutes, you will be at 1,600m above sea level, in the middle of green pastures, another climate, with a panoramic view. The hikers and mountain bike enthusiasts will be delighted to go there, as well as to Chaumont above the city of Neuchâtel.
